Hindsight

This is not the cake I made for Jaxon's third birthday party tonight. It is the cake Photoshop graciously cleaned up and made pretty for me.
This
is the cake I made for Jaxon's third birthday party.

COULDA....
Could have used the easy whipped cream + flavoring "frosting" I was considering. But powdered sugar/homemade frosting was way more cost-effective.

SHOULDA....
Should have made the frosting thicker. Should have stopped what I was doing as it ran down the sides of the cake and thickened up the stuff.
WOULDA!!!
Would have moved it from this ugly cookie sheet, away
from its surrounding flotsam of frosting mess, if I thought it would survive the journey.

Shall we compare? My frosting wasn't even stiff enough to make the top fin correctly. Ah, me....I am in need of cake decorating supplies and a cake decorating class, it seems. I'm only a teensy bit comforted by the fact that Family Fun no doubt has not only great photographers and great photoshop'ers, but also professional cake makers/decorators!

Family fun is a great site.

Your mouth looks way better than their's though. :) Good job. The more you do the better you'll get.

That's funny. I made Emma a fish cake for her birthday as well, and for some reason I had the same issue with the frosting. But I still think your cake turned out really cute, and I am sure it tastes great as well.

Oh I think it's cute!!! He will love it because YOU made it. My favorite cakes were and still are the homemade ones.

Believe me, he didn't even notice. Besides, you get like a million brownie points for even attempting the cute fish cake. And then a million more, because you actually succeeded.

And I had to giggle that you photoshpped it. :)

Happy birthday to Jaxon!

I love it. I think that you did a great job with the cake. It is fun to be the one that makes the cakes for the kids when they are little. My kids loved it.

I'm still impressed! You are too funny. I wouldn't have even attempted it probably. Luckily my mother in law makes AMAZING cakes. She did our wedding cake actually and she always makes her grandkids their bday cakes.

Well, I still think the cake is cute, and you have to admit that you are one of not so many people who HAS photoshop skills to help clean things up. Did you know Roberts or Michaels gives cake decorating courses? I've considered it a few times...I still think the cake is cute! He won't remember the little messy parts, but the time and effort you put into it. :)
